ISLAMIC BANKING
 

This is a three men Advisory Board constituted by the Board of Directors of Integrated Microfinance Bank Limited to provide guide and serve in advisory capacity to the Bank on Shari’ah Compliant investments, microfinance banking products and services so as to achieve the objectives of the Bank in providing financial services to the poor and economically active individuals, small business owners in the form and manner that is consistent with their faith and belief.

MALLAM IBRAHIM SULAIMAN – (Chairman, Sharia’h Advisory Board)

Malam Ibrahim Sulaiman is the Chairman of the Sharia’h Advisory Board. He is a renowned Islamic scholar and currently Lecturer in Islamic and Comparative Law, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria 1977 to date. He has held various positions such as: -Overall supervision and administration of CILS (1992-2001), Member, Committee of Deans and Directors, ABU (1992 – 2001),Member, Professional and Academic Board, IOA/ABU (1992 -  2001),Member, Faculty Board of Law(1980 – 2001),Editor in Chief, Journal of Comparative and Islamic Law, Chairman, CILS Board (1992-2001). Director, CILS/ABU, 1992 – 2001 – As Director HE established the: (a) Fatwa Commission – a body comprising prominent Ulama and intellectuals which concerns periodically to deliberate on issues of Islamic Law and advise the Muslim Ummah accordingly. (b) Judges Forum – a body comprising Sharia and common law judges in Northern Nigeria which meets annually to review developments in the judicial systems as they affect the application of Sharia in Nigeria. (c) Convened two International Conferences on Sharia in 1992 and 1993 attending by leading advocates of Sharia from the Islamic Movements.

As part of his contributions to the development of the nation, Malam Ibrahim Sulaiman Organized and convened the following events: International Conference on Islamic Law, held at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria, (1976), International Seminar o Muslim Education, held at Bayero University, Kano, Nigeria, (1977), leading directly to the World Conference on Islamic Education in Mecca the following year which set the agenda for education in many Muslim countries, International Seminar on Social Justice, held at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria,(1978), National Conference on Muslim Women, Bayero University, Kano, Nigeria, (1980), Internal Conference on Islamic Law, Bagauda Lake Hotel, Kano, Nigeria, (1991).
 
Malam Ibrahim Sulaiman other national services includes:

Member, Nigerian Pilgrim Board (1995), with specific responsibility to propose a new modality to Federal Government for the Pilgrim Board, Member, Vision 2010 Committee, (1996-97) – a body fashioned after Malaysian Vision 2020, designed with the task of reshaping the future of Nigeria, Member, Board of Trustees, Education Trust Fund Board: (1) Represented North Central Zone, including FCT; (2) Was member of F&GPC, Projects Committee and Funds Generation Committee; (3) Chair, Tsangaya Committee with mandate to works for the Integration of Qur’anic Schools into the mainstream education; (4) Chair, Girls Child Education Enhancement Committee to promote girl child education nationwide; (5) Led ETF delegation to Islamic Development Bank, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to explore means of partnership with ETF in Qur’anic education; (6) Led ETF delegation to Malaysia and UK in respect of Girl Child Education; (7) Supervised ETF projects in North Central Zone and FCT. Malam Ibrahim Sulaiman was among the 9-member Board set up by the Federal Government to “rehabilitate, restore, and consolidate” education in Nigeria by intervening in critical areas at all levels of education with funds derived from 2% tax on the private sector – 2003 to date,  Member, Ahmadu Bello University Senate  (1992 -2002).

Malam Ibrahim Sulaiman would bring all his local and international experience to bear as the chair of the Sharia’h Compliant Board.

MALLAM Baba Yunus Muhammad – Member



Malam Baba Yunus Muhammad has distinguished himself in diverse fields of human endeavours, academic, business, publishing, journalism and religion. He is the Founder and Executive Chairman of Al Furqan Foundation; Chairman & Editor-in-Chief, The Pen Newsmagazine, Founder and Chairman, Open Press Ltd. A product of the London School of Journalism, Malam B. Y. Muhammad also holds a Masters Degree in Mass Communication from the St. Clements University, Turks, Caicos Island, British West Indies. He has several published works to his credit.
The establishment of interest-free banking in Africa is an area close to the heart of B. Y. Muhammad, as he has pursued it with all vigour. He believes that interest-free facilities and banking services can contribute tremendously to the empowerment of deprived families and those suffering from hardships and provide assistance schemes for students from poor backgrounds in the northern region. To this end he has published articles on Islamic Finance, organised conferences and lectures on Islamic Banking and Finance in Ghana and Nigeria.
Another major area of his work has been education. B. Y. Muhammad has always maintained that education is the only way of breaking the cycle of poverty and social deprivation which has kept Africans poor and exploited at the bottom of the socio-economic ladder of nations. Malam Baba Yunus Muhammed would bring all his previous experience to bear as a member of the Sharia’h Advisory Board.

Mallam Sulaiman Abdullahi Karwai- Member
Malam Sulaiman Abdullahi Karwai has a doctorate degree (Ph.D) in Business Administartion, Ahmadu Bello University , Zaria (2006), Master of Business Administration (MBA). Bayero University, Kano, 1994, B.Sc (Accounting), Bayero University Kano, 1991, Advanced Diploma in Law, Bayero University Kano, 1996, Diploma in Data processing, Debis Computer Professional Institute, 1995, Certificate in Arabic, Islamic University Madina, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, 1410H, and Certificate on Management from Islamic Perspectives, International Islamic University Malaysia, 2007.

Malam Karwai has attended various conferences both within and outside Nigeria such as: International Workshop on Muslim Education Reform, organized by the International Institute of Islamic Thought, (22 to 23 April,2002), Inter-Action International Communication (IAIC) Workshop, Organized by the British Council (27 to 28 2006), International Seminar on Achieving Career Satisfaction, organized by the British Council, (9th September, 2006), International Seminar on Growing Yourself and Your Organization, organized by the British Council, (27th January, 2007), International Conference on Management in Islamic Perspective, organized by Department of Business Administration International Islamic University Malaysia, (15-16 May,2007).
